Food Insecurity Committee

Our mission

The DFA Food Security Committee supports OSU's strategic plan, Prosperity Widely Shared, by engaging DFA employees in initiatives that increase student food security, promote a culture of safety and well-being and ensure that every student has the resources and support to graduate.

What we do

The DFA Food Security committee engages with DFA employees to support the OSU Basic Needs Center through donation drives, promotion of their programs and volunteer work.

  • Provide educational materials and learning sessions for the OSU community.
  • Research and regularly update our knowledge of student food security issues.

About the OSU Basic Needs Center

The OSU Basic Needs Center is a hub for sharing resources and building community. The BNC runs a campus food pantry, a textbook lending program, free laundry and other critical services.

Programs at the BNC are peer-led and centered on radical hospitality and community care.

This committee researches available data regarding food insecurity among college students and provides regular updates to DFA employees and the broader OSU community.

The latest available data shows that approximately 1 in 4 students at OSU experiences food insecurity.

The goal of our work is to help the OSU community understand the scope of the problem, encourage support of the BNC's work and engage DFA employees in solutions.
